Project 1A: Cooking Recipe Poster (Week 4-5)

For project 1, we had to create an instructable infographics poster and video. We were instructed to choose a cooking recipe that wasn't too easy or too hard, something that contained different steps of preparing the food so that we could showcase our skills.

As Chinese New Year was nearing, I decided to make a Yee Sang Infographics poster and video. I got the recipe from: https://www.plated.asia/recipes/yee-sang/ and started planning out the assets that I had to draw and the layout of the poster. As we had just learned about isometric design in infographics, we were encouraged to use that in our poster designs as well.

For the poster design, I referred to a lot of other recipe posters and learned from those designs, incorporating the elements that I felt would fit my poster's design well. I also made a moodboard and colour palette to decide on the overall mood of my poster. I had to create the assets as well, and therefore used reference as I drew each asset out with my pen tool and shape tool.

Project 1B: Cooking Recipe Video (Week 5-6)

After creating the poster, we focused on making the recipe video. As I made the assets on a separate artboard from the poster itself, it was easy for me to export the assets so that I could use it in my video. I learned how to use the export asset window in Illustrator and learned that the PNG 8 setting gave you transparent backgrounds. Thanks to Illustrator's functions, my workload was minimized a lot.

Figure 2.2 Sketching the storyboard for the video

I tried to sketch the storyboard for the video but it was basically whatever the instructions said, so I just used the instructions as the guideline for my video and animated it to look interesting and more captivating towards the audience.

While making the video, I learned how to colour code my layers into groups on after effects so that I could select them easily and not get messed up or confused with the layers. This helped me save a lot of time finding layers to edit.
